The coming of the white man affects the people of Umuofias religion and cause culture conflict. The people of umuofia have many gods. Agbala- the oracle of the Hills and Caves. People come from far and near to consult it (12). People consult it when they have dispute with their neighbors and also, they can discover what their future held for them from this god. Chi is also a personal god which judge people by the work of their hands. They also believed that if they say yes that their chi also says yes. The people of Umuofia are very obedient to their gods. They dont go to war without consulting their gods. The white man wants to impose his religion on the people of Umuofia. The white man believes in one God which he believes to have made heaven and e arth. Also said his God made the entire world and the Umuofias gods. He wanted the people of Umuofia to abandon their gods and follow his own religion. The white men belittle the people of Umuofias gods by saying different things about their gods. The white man says that the people of Umuofias god are gods of deceit who tell them to kill their fellow and destroy innocent children. The white man says that their gods are not alive and cannot do them harm and that they are made of piece of wood and stone. Hearing and seeing all these from the white man, the people of Umuofia were not happy with the white mans religion which was a reason for a culture conflict. The economy of the people of Umuofia was out in conflict with the white mans economy. Agriculture is the source of living in Umuofia. Peoples riches are based on the number of barns they have. Peolple really work hard on their farm to make harvest. Both children and wives help on the farm to plant yams. The people of Umuofia have a very good scene of agriculture. For instance, during the planting season, Okonkwo planted his yam from the smouldering earth by making rings of thick sisal leaves around them. Budget Review II â⬠¢ I again, explored and studied the financial plan of my local government, Albany-Dougherty County, GA. Dougherty County was formed from Baker County through an act of the Georgia General Assembly (Dougherty County Finance Department, 2015) in 1853. Dougherty County is named after Judge Charles Dougherty a judge out of Athens, GA. Through review of the 2010 census, I discovered that there is approximately 326 square miles of land in the county and population of 94,565 people (City of Albany, GA, 2015). Albany-Dougherty County is considered an innovative area in the state having several leading industries that moved here. Those industries include Proctor Gamble, Miller Brewing Company and Albany Marine Corps Logistics Base (Dougherty County Finance Department, 2015). I examined the last three years, 2013, 2014 and 2015, budgets of particular note of the revenue sources, balances, surpluses, and deficits of the budgets. Assessing the internal and external opportunities or challenges of revenue sources. Looking for goals and priorities of the goods and services. Evaluating the budget stabilization measures and analyzing the financial policy as it leads to alternative taxes. The city budgets are balanced in accordance with Georgia Law (OCGA 36-81-3(B) (3)), which states that a budget has to be through assessing profits and fund balances to insure they are equal to each other (Dougherty County Finance Department, 2015). Naive Realism Essay Naive realism is just a way of looking at the world. Also called common sense realism, things are perceived directly as they are. True naive realists would never sum up or analyze their views, because they do not consider them views but the way things obviously are. However, I will do my best to illuminate them: I, the naive realist, am a human being. There is the physical world, the space where everything exists and the time in which everything happens. There are many things in this physical world, each largely separate from the other and persisting over a span of time. Time is divided into now, which is real and experienced, the past, which once existed but now does not, and the future, which does not exist yet but will. My senses give me direct knowledge of reality. If I see a chair, it is because there is a chair physically where and when I see it. There are exceptions, such as when I am dreaming or watching a movie, but these are rare and obviously not real. I can know things through my senses, through thinking about things, and through communication with other people. Other peoples beliefs may be correct or not, but beliefs of people I respect, and beliefs held commonly by most people in my society, are usually true. Science used to support naÃÆ'à ¯ve realism to a certain point, that is to say, things being what they seem was the easiest, and the only answer in the not-so-distant past. However, eventually classical science broke away from naÃÆ'à ¯ve realism in a major way. Scientists drew a line in the sand between objective reality and subjective perception. All of a sudden, the grass wasnt really green and the sky wasnt blue, in fact, they had no color at all. Color became the interaction between light, the object, and the human eye. For example, if Im looking at a red rose, science says that the light from the sun hits the flower, which both absorbs and reflects the light. A small portion of that reflected light hits the human eye, which puts aside most of it and instead focuses on an even smaller portion that we call visible light. It then ignores most of the visible light and focuses again on a smaller, stronger portion, which my eye would translate as the color red. Science, therefore, gave birth to a sort of sophisticated realism, where human beings do not perceive things as they truly are, but rather perceptions arise as a result of the interaction of the human and its environment. Perception does not show the object as it truly is, but in the way it interacts with human senses.

Seattle City of Literature and Our Bookwormââ¬â¢s Guide to Enjoying theCity What Is a City of Literature? The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) announced in October that Seattle has been designated a City of Literature. After five years of attempting to secure a bid, Seattle City of Literature finally achieved its goal. Seattle now joins an exclusive group of culturally creative cities across the globe and is the second city in the United States to be classified as a City of Literature, the other one being Iowa City (home of the renowned Iowa Writersââ¬â¢ Workshop). What Is a City of Literature? A City of Literature is a city that has demonstrated fervent enthusiasm and passion for literature, publishing, and other forms of written expression. UNESCO designates cities in seven different fields: Crafts and Folk Arts, Design, Film, Gastronomy, Literature, Media Arts, and Music. Essentially, all creative cities seek to enhance a deeper understanding of history and culture through creative endeavors. Furthermore, they wish to implement creativity and culture into à policies and industries specific to their respective cities. What Does This Mean for Seattle? As Stesha Brandon, literature and humanities director of Seattle Public Library said, ââ¬Å"What it does is that it allows us to connect with networks all over the world, in multiple disciplines, to find opportunities to build understanding through the literary arts and other arts. We look at it as an opportunity, especially in this very divisive time, for us to help build bridges to people through the literary arts.â⬠Exploring Seattle as the City of Literature: If you are visiting Seattle or showing visitors around, Seattle is the perfect city for booklovers. White fields of snow, surrounded by ice covered mountains and no civilization around for miles. This may sound like a fantasy land but is the blank canvas of Antarctica. Some people think of it as an arctic waste land but I see it as an unexplored frontier. Antarctica is one of last places on the planet that has not been thoroughly explored. It gives the land a kind of mystery; like anything could exist there. It represents an older simpler time in the world, before industrialization, automobiles, and roads. People have not breached this still natural and wild habitat. This natural world holds a magnificent beauty that is unparalleled anywhere else. It is one of the last uncultivated places left in the world where nature still reigns, free from the influence of human kind.Antarctica intrigues me because I am also interested in what is new and developing. This land has the opportunity to be created into anything. Any kind of government or economy; a whole new way of life could be crea ted here. Any type of society could develop from a colonial government controlled by some world power or a new sovereign nation. The unknown ignites my imagination. It makes me ask the question what new advancement in technology can be found or scientific discoveries can be made? I am intrigued by the unknown and of all the places in the world Antarctica is the epitome of the unknown.

Reflection Paper - Case Study Example A good instance is a person who is avoiding members of a certain religious group that is affiliated with certain beliefs and acts. A Christian may avoid or depict an Islam based on the acts of terrorism that are linked to Muslims. The notion of reference group is significant in appreciating conformity, socialization, and how individuals take in and assess themselves (Koch 56). A reference group offers a setting of reference that has a positive or negative effect on the attitude and conduct of a person. These groups also carry out a comparable role by playing the role of a standard figure against which persons can do self-evaluation and other people (Sheehy 127). The reference group is likely to be different due to a different culture or a different society. For instance, a person who was raised in the Middle East countries in the Islam religion and teachings is likely to have a different reference group from an individual who has been brought up as a Catholic Christian. A reference group plays the primary source of self-evaluation and attainment of certain goal in life. An individual who decides to become a lawyer starts to be categorized with that reference group due to their goals and
